i-Academy launches today – an innovative vocational training and e-learning provider, new from Youth Sport Direct and the Youth Sport Trust
i-Academy is an accredited training centre providing vocational courses to individual learners in the early years, active leisure and education sectors, as well as bespoke e-learning and training development services. It is a joint venture between Youth Sport Direct and the Youth Sport Trust, to be launched today at the House of Lords in London at a ceremony hosted by Baroness Sue Campbell CBE, Chair of the Youth Sport Trust.
Youth Sport Trust courses and programmes have gained a first-rate reputation over the past two decades, and are recognised as world-leading in the domain of PE and school sport. i-Academy will build on the existing portfolio to create an extensive suite of accredited training programmes and e-learning tools, complementing the 300-strong team of tutors and trainers.
Courses will cater for individual learners at all ages and stages of life, who wish to enhance or improve vocational skills for use in the workplace, such as quality assurance, safeguarding, mentoring practice and tutoring. In addition, i-Academy will offer bespoke e-learning and development services to businesses and other organisations who may wish to create or refresh their in-house training offer to employees, volunteers or members.
i-Academy will differentiate itself with a strong focus on cutting-edge technology to support offline teaching. Learners will be able to access course materials, connect with peers and discuss issues with tutors via an advanced Learner Management System, available online or via a tablet and smart phone app. This ‘blended learning’ approach will allow learners to work at their own pace, on any device, and in any environment.
“Our mission is to provide high quality learning opportunities, helping young people and adults who are working in the education or active leisure sectors develop their careers and maximise their value for current and future employers,” says Jo Simpson, CEO of Youth Sport Direct. “The flexibility offered to those studying with i-Academy is considerable, and we believe that this, coupled with the breadth of our offer and our expertise in these sectors, will bring real value to our learners.”
Baroness Sue Campbell CBE, Chair of the Youth Sport Trust said: “I am delighted to be hosting the launch of i-Academy today. This new venture between Youth Sport Direct and the Youth Sport Trust is unquestionably one of our most exciting developments of recent times; it reflects our absolute commitment to the professional development of the early years and education workforce, and our passion for innovation and creativity in the way we engage with learners. It’s a huge step forward that I am very excited to take.”
i-Academy is registered with the UK Register of Learning Providers, and is partnered with prestigious awarding organisations including Active IQ, YMCA Awards, Sports Leaders UK and Prince’s Trust Qualifications.
